Commentary Format & Audience Response

Study how commentary structure and source selection affect retention, meaningful audience response and the time needed to publish.

Business objective

What this study needs to answer.

Find commentary approaches that add clear original value, retain viewers and justify their research and editing cost.

  • Does a thesis-first opening hold attention better than an original contextual opening on a comparable topic?
  • Which source-selection rules lead to substantive audience response rather than only passive views?
Hypotheses · untested

Starting ideas, not conclusions.

  • An early original viewpoint may clarify why a viewer should stay.
  • Focused commentary on a coherent topic may produce more substantive responses per view than a loosely connected selection.
Method and scope

Compare carefully. Record the exceptions.

Keep source-selection criteria written in advance. Compare thesis-first and context-first original openings within similar topic, source length, format and publication-age cohorts. Hold the intended amount of commentary similar and log source permissions. If a breaking story differs materially, analyze it separately. Manually code comments using a consistent rubric and review borderline cases.

Included

  • Original commentary structure, source-topic selection, context, pacing and explanation.
  • A source/permission record and topic-matched format comparisons.

Outside the scope

  • Assuming access to third-party clips, music or permission to republish them.
  • Interpreting heated comment volume alone as useful audience value or causal proof.
Measures, denominators and observation windows
Meaningful-comment rate
Comments meeting the prewritten rubric (question, reasoned response or substantive added context) / all eligible non-self, non-spam comments reviewed at 7 days. Record moderation exclusions and review count.
Audience response per 1,000 views
Eligible substantive comments / reported views × 1,000 at 7 days; distinguish comment events from unique commenters.
Retention
Platform-reported average percentage viewed and opening retention at the chosen timestamp, at 24 hours and 7 days, by duration and topic cohort.
Research efficiency
7-day watch minutes / combined sourcing, research, filming, editing and publishing hours.

Platform measures use matched 24-hour and seven-day snapshots where available. Report format, duration, snapshot age and missing fields. Zero denominators are undefined; inaccessible metrics are unavailable.

Baseline, costs and decision criteria

Baseline collection plan

Record the source-selection rubric, comment-coding rules and comparable channel history if available. Use week-one cohorts when history is absent. Record unavailable reports and the number of comments actually reviewed.

Time, costs and revenue

Log source research and verification, permission/licensing where relevant, recording, editing, moderation and publishing time; separate licenses and other cash fees from estimated labor and received revenue.

Decisions after baseline

Choose later tests using baseline retention variability, meaningful-response rates and sourcing cost. Continue structures that show repeated directional improvement on comparable topics. Pause a source format if access, permissions or production economics cannot be established. Inconclusive comparisons stay inconclusive.

Data access, confounders and limitations

Breaking-news timing, topic controversy, existing fandoms, source familiarity, video length, moderation, licensing constraints and uneven platform distribution.

Use owner-accessible native reports and private operating records where available. No API credentials, monetization or complete tracking are assumed. Comparisons are observational unless a stronger design is actually established; crossposts are not independent evidence. Public reporting excludes private customer details.

Planned activity

Targets stay separate from actual output.

User-planned launch in the week beginning October 26, 2026: at least one video every day on BhavCzar Reacts. Planned target only.

Initial four-week pilot

October 26–November 22, 2026, with weekly reviews on November 2, 9, 16 and 23. Final seven-day content snapshots mature November 29; order and inquiry windows may close later.

Provisional 90-day horizon through January 23, 2027. Actual launch and baseline collection remain unconfirmed.

Planned outputs

Useful evidence. Documented decisions.

  • Source and commentary-structure register.
  • Retention and coded-response review with example categories, anonymized in public.
  • A source-selection and commentary-format recommendation with limitations.
Next milestone

Confirm permitted source material, write the response-coding rubric and capture channel baseline before the first planned release.

The shared protocol defines source records, consistent windows, private-data boundaries and weekly continue/change/pause reviews.
